Prostate cancer: The specialists in Munich

  • Radiosurgery experience with Cyberknife in nearly 6,000 patients
  • Close cooperation with experts of Urology at the University Hospital Munich

The European Radiosurgery Center Munich is one of the most experienced institutions of radiosurgery worldwide. It has performed nearly 6,000 tumor treatments with Cyberknife. It is a leading German radiosurgery center and most experienced and most advanced in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors. Since 2013, the physicians at the ECZM successfully use the most modern Cyberknife system, M6. This offers fast delivery times of only 30 minutes on an outpatient basis.

In each individual case it has to be decided whether a Cyberknife treatment, surgery or another therapy method is the best and safest treatment option. The Cyberknife system can treat cancer of the internal organs with submillimetric precision while protecting surrounded tissues such as organs. Prostate movement is detected during the treatment and automatically corrected by the system. The robotic head follows the prostate motion which applies the high dose radiation precisely to the tumor. Thus, no additional tools are needed to block prostate movement during treatment as used with other radiation modalities.

The European Radiosurgery Center Munich has a large number of cooperations both in the medical field and with cost carriers. This is a great benefit for our patients. There are also close partnerships to national and international clinics and scientists using the Cyberknife technology. A regular exchange of experience with the development team of the Cyberknife manufacturer (Accuray) shall ensure a continuous optimization of the system and the treatments. Both physicians are regular speakers at national and international symposia and congresses.

A close clinical and scientific cooperation with the colleagues of the University Hospital of Munich (LMU) is of particular importance. The European Radiosurgery Center Munich is in close exchange with the Departments of Neurosurgery, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Urology, Thoracic Surgery, Orthopedics and Ophthalmology. Furthermore, there is a scientific cooperation with the Institute for Robotics and Cognitive Systems at University of Lübeck, in which major components of the Cyberknife system (software control) were developed.

With leading German University hospitals using the Cyberknife technology (e.g. Charité Berlin), clinical and scientific issues are processed.
